Think Lotus and what comes to mind? For those with any existing emotional bond to the brand it will be small, elegantly engineered and famously lightweight sports cars inspired by the brand’s long history as a motorsport pioneer. Sure, you can still get something along those lines in the shape of the Emira. But Lotus’s shift to electrification is taking it in a dramatic new direction.
Enter the Emeya, sister car to the already imposing Eletre electric SUV and described as a ‘Hyper GT’ for its 900 horsepower plus output, four-door practicality and combination of both range and performance. All very impressive, but with the likes of Porsche, Audi, Mercedes-AMG and Tesla already offering similar what can Lotus bring to the party? And how can it reimagine those traditions of lightweight performance in a vehicle weighing as much as a Range Rover? Time to join Rory for a bit of a European roadtrip to try and find out! Along the way Rory tests the Emeya on urban roads, flat out on the limit-free German Autobahn and then on a favourite mountain road in the Austrian Alps. Is the boot as practical as Lotus claims? Can it go faster than a Porsche Taycan? And once you’ve had your fun will it charge its battery as quickly as the figures say it will? For the answers to all these questions and many more besides hop in alongside Rory as he finds out whether Lotus has been able to celebrate its illustrious past at the same time as powering into the future in a high-performance and luxurious electric car. And once you’ve done that if you’ve enjoyed the video make sure you tick like and maybe join the conversation in the comments thread below.
