The Maserati GranCabrio Folgore is, technically, the world’s first luxury electric convertible. There are other drop-top electric cars of course, like the MG Cyberster and the… Hummer EV. (True story.) But the Maserati here, it costs almost £190,000. See… luxury.
Rory has driven it – through the Amalfi Coast, no less – to answer the most important question: is a near-£200k electric convertible an absolutely terrible idea? On paper it’s all very promising. Three electric motors producing 760-odd horsepower and, more importantly, an insane 1350Nm of torque. Ergo, it accelerates to 62mph in just 2.8 seconds. That basically means it’ll keep up with a Bugatti Veyron. For a few seconds, anyway. And if you’re worried about it handling like a skip on a skateboard, what with its massive and really heavy battery… well, you’ll just have to watch the video. Click play above to do that.
