What is Cazoo?
Cazoo is an e-commerce platform for buying and selling used cars online. It was founded in 2018 by Alex Chesterman as an online car retailer for selling used cars. In January 2023, Chesterman stepped down as CEO after the startup’s share price plummeted by around 98 per cent. In December 2023, following a restructuring of the company's capital and the appointment of a new Board of Directors, Cazoo shifted its business model to a marketplace for selling used cars owned by car dealers. In May 2024, Cazoo fell into administration after it struggled to raise money from investors, resulting in hundreds of jobs being cut.
How is Cazoo different to Auto Trader?
Auto Trader
Auto Trader advertises over 435,000 used and new cars from over 130 brands (as of 02/04/2024). On Auto Trader, you have the option to either buy a car outright or on finance, or lease a car, from our network of retailers and manufacturers depending on your preference.
Cazoo
Cazoo stocks 972 used cars from 34 brands (as of 02/04/2024). On Cazoo, you get the option to either buy a used car outright or on finance.

On Cazoo, you can see 11 photos of the car. On Auto Trader, sellers can upload up to 100 photos to show a detailed view of the car.

On Auto Trader, you can save unlimited number of adverts so that you can come back to all your favourite deals easily and whenever you want. Even without an account, you can save up to four adverts. On Cazoo, you can save searches only if you’re logged in.
