Are you in the market for a new family SUV but torn between hybrid or an electric car?
You’re not alone! That’s why we put two of the most exciting contenders to the test: the Honda CR-V and the Skoda Enyaq. In our latest video, Rory and Alex take these two family-friendly SUVs out on the road to see which one delivers the best balance of practicality, performance and efficiency. And just for fun, we also put these SUVs through their paces off-road, with some unexpected results. Let’s just say one of them didn’t handle the terrain too well...

Get to know the cars

Honda CR-V

The Honda CR-V is a hybrid SUV that features a petrol engine supported by an electric motor. This gives you improved fuel economy without relying on charging points. It’s a great option for families who take long trips or live in areas with limited charging stations.
Things we liked: • It’s smooth, efficient, and super comfy. • Loads of practical features, including a brilliant blind-spot camera and plush seating. • Slightly bigger boot space than the Enyaq, making it great for family road trips.

Skoda Enyaq Coupe

The Skoda Enyaq is a fully electric vehicle that offers a smooth, quiet ride with lower running costs and the environmental benefits of zero tailpipe emissions. However, it does require access to charging facilities, which may not be ideal for everyone.
Things we liked: • A powerful electric SUV that leaves the Honda in the dust in a 0-60 race. • Sleek, modern design with a massive infotainment screen. • Ideal for those looking to embrace electric with more speed and style.

Should I choose a hybrid or electric?

When choosing between a hybrid and an EV, you should consider your driving habits, charging accessibility, and budget.
• If you frequently take long trips and don’t want to worry about charging, a hybrid might be the better choice. If most of your driving is local, an EV can be more efficient. • If you have a home charging setup or reliable public chargers nearby, an EV is a practical option. If charging is inconvenient, a hybrid offers more flexibility. • Electric cars may have higher upfront costs, but they often have lower running costs due to reduced fuel and maintenance expenses. Hybrids tend to be more affordable initially but still require fuel. • If lowering emissions is a priority, electric is your better choice. However, hybrids still offer better fuel efficiency compared to traditional petrol-powered cars. Hybrids like the CR-V provide flexibility for those not ready to rely solely on charging infrastructure, while electric vehicles like the Enyaq are perfect for those with reliable home charging and a commitment to lower emissions.
