Cars like the Ferrari 12 Cilindri shouldn’t really be happening anymore. While the world is switching to electric, here’s a thing with a 6.5-litre 12-cylinder engine (the clue is in the name), that revs to 9500rpm and pumps out 830 horsepower. No turbos, no superchargers, and no electrical assistance of any kind. In that sense, it’s old school to the core.
And just look at it. The design is also retro-inspired, apparently. And yeah, you can pick stuff out – the black band between the headlamps, for instance, evokes the Ferrari 365 GTB4 Daytona. And then there's the… erm… that’s about it really. It looks like nothing Ferrari has ever done. And it’ll definitely be polarising. But it is spectacular in many ways. Like how it gets to 124mph in 7.8 seconds. And the ‘delta wing’ design parts at the back, which are active aero devices that raise and lower according to the car’s speed. Also a boot that’s big enough for a big bag of golfing sticks – because that’s extremely important to people who own cars like this. They all play golf. Every last one of them. Spend all day just golferising and having money. Inside, the tech-fest cockpit gives the passenger their own screen, while the driver gets haptic control panels on the steering wheel, plus the classic ‘manettino’ dial to adjust the car’s settings. But what is this £330,000 V12 Ferrari like to drive? Spoiler alert: proper rubbish. Not really. But watch the video to find out exactly how good it is, and why.
