Calling the new Audi RS Q8 “cut price” is a bit of a stretch, obviously – it costs about £120,000 without any options. But, underneath it’s basically a Lamborghini Urus. And an Urus can easily set you back twice that. So yeah… cut price.
Both the Urus and the RS Q8 do the same job: everything. Ferry kids to school, fit in a weekly shop, do a quick lap of a racetrack at full pelt. But where the Urus looks and feels utterly mad, inside and out, the RS Q8 is far more restrained. Classic Audi. Techy, classy, refined. The main difference between the RS and a standard Q8 is the engine: a 4.0-litre V8 with hybrid tech, developing 600 horsepower. Or 640 horsepower if you go for the Performance model (as if the standard one doesn’t have enough). That makes this the most powerful internal combustion model that Audi has ever put into production. It will crack 62mph in just 3.6 seconds. All-wheel drive gets the power down to the road. There are plenty of other changes that go into the RS Q8, designed to make it both a superb driver’s car and a comfy daily runabout. But just how good is it at those opposing things? Well, we’ll have to wait a little while longer before we can drive it and say for sure, but in the meantime, Alex talks you through the details in our video. She also has a chat with a man called Marcel, responsible for developing the RS Q8. A biblical chat – both of them appear to be walking on water. That alone is worth clicking play above, right?
