The Kia EV6 has been hugely popular since its launch in 2021. This year at our New Car Awards owners voted the EV6 the Best Car for Families and Best Car for Dog Owners, while in 2023 it took home the overall New Car of the Year Award. Now the EV6 is getting an update with subtly tweaked looks and a larger battery as standard. With even more range and faster charging times Kia will be hoping to give the EV6 the edge over the competition.
• The sleek EV6 is an electric crossover sitting between the upcoming EV3 and the EV9. It’s also slightly bigger than Kia’s other electric SUV the Niro • It gains a new battery with more range and faster charging speeds along with a refreshed look inside and out • Now with a range of up to 361 miles • The updated EV6 is available to order now to arrive later in the year • Starting from £45,575

Design and models available
The external changes to the EV6 are subtle, mainly consisting of updates to the front headlights and grille to keep it in line with Kia’s latest models. Kia will be sticking with the familiar three grades of trim it uses for the EV3 and EV9: Air, GT-Line and GT-Line S. These get progressively sportier styling as you move through the levels with additions such as privacy glass and body-coloured wheel arches. Range-topping GT-Line S models also get bigger 20-inch wheels.

Interior and tech
Inside the EV6 will continue to come with a long list of features as standard, including a duo of 12.3-inch screens and Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability. This allows you to plug-in things like an e-bike or a laptop to your car. All models come with parking sensors, heated front seats and steering wheel, a reversing camera, and a host of assistance systems like adaptive cruise control and lane keeping assist. Moving up a grade to GT-Line gets you useful features such as blind-spot monitoring and wireless phone charging. While GT-Line S cars get a fancy Meridian sound system, 360-degree camera, a digital key, and ventilated front seats.

Batteries/range
This is an area where there has been a significant change. The EV6 will now come with an 84.0kWh battery up from the previous 77.4kWh. This will increase the distance you can travel between charges by around 30 miles, providing an official WLTP range of 361 miles. When you do need to top-up on the go Kia says you can go from 10 to 80 per cent in 18 minutes and add over 200 miles of range in as little as 15 minutes. All trims are available with a single motor powering the rear wheels, but the GT-Line and GT-Line S models can be ordered with dual motors and all-wheel drive. This provides the EV6 with over 300 horsepower but reduces the range of the GT-Line and GT-Line S to 339 miles and 324 miles respectively. If maximising range is a priority, you can add an optional heat pump to GT-Line S cars to improve efficiency in cold weather.

Price and release
Order books open from today with first deliveries expected later in the year. Prices start at £45,575 for the rear-wheel drive Air, increasing to £48,575 for the GT-Line and £53,675 for the GT-Line S. The all-wheel drive models start at £52,075 for the GT-Line and go up to £57,175 for the top of the range GT-Line S. There will also be an updated performance EV6 GT arriving early next year, but pricing has not yet been announced.

What other cars from Kia are due this year?
Kia had been busy this year updating its line-up and we’ve already seen updates to the Picanto and Sorento. Meanwhile the all-new EV3 is expected to arrive in the UK shortly and we’ve already seen the concept designs for the upcoming EV4 and EV5. Kia has big plans for going electric and is aiming to launch 15 new EVs by 2027, nine of which are destined for the UK, so we expect to hear plenty more from Kia in the year to come.
What other cars that are upcoming will this compete with?
There seems to be an ever-increasing list of electric family SUVs at the moment. Newer competitors to the EV6 include the Peugeot E-3008 and Renault Scenic E-tech. However well-established models like the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Tesla Model Y, Nissan Aryia and Volkswagen ID.5 are all vying for the attention of buyers.
