The DS name goes back 70 years to 1955 when the original Citroën DS was launched and immediately became a French icon. Now a brand in its own right, DS Automobiles is best known for its plush interiors and avant-garde styling, sitting at the premium end of the Stellantis portfolio. In true DS fashion, the new N°8 is a statement piece, heavily inspired by the Aero Sport Lounge concept with its bold lines, swooping coupe-like shape and dramatic front and rear lights. This will only be available with fully electric power and boasts an impressive range of up to 466 miles.
• This will be an all-electric flagship model for DS and will be the only model to be solely available in pure electric form • The N°8 focuses on comfort and luxury with interior features such as an x-shaped steering wheel, floating central display and brushed metal inserts • With a maximum official range of up to 466 miles • Available to order now • Prices start at £50,780

Design and models available

The N°8 has a striking design with sharp line and angled lights cutting across the front and rear of the car like daggers. On top of the range models the front grille is illuminated to add a sense of drama. Large wheels enhance the imposing appearance and the fastback SUV shape gives the side of the N°8 an air of the Peugeot E-3008. There’s a choice of two trims: Pallas and Étoile. Each comes with its own unique art deco-style logo and all models get a heat pump as standard to help maximise range in cold conditions.

Interior and tech

Inside the N°8 is just as stylish with the central display appearing to float thanks to the shape of the dashboard and enhanced by ambient lighting. Other unique touches include the x-shaped steering wheel and the use of texture in the brushed metal inserts. The stitching on the upholstery further adds to the plush look. All N°8 models come with a head up display, all around parking sensors, a reversing camera, acoustic laminated windows, and the latest infotainment system. This runs on a 16-inch touchscreen with integrated wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and built-in ChatGPT. Some Étoile models also benefit from active suspension which scans the road ahead and adapts to the road surface.

Batteries/range

Pallas trim is available with front-wheel drive only. This has the choice of either a 74kWh battery with 230 horsepower and a 340-mile range, or a 97kWh battery with 280 horsepower capable of up to 466 miles on a single charge. The higher level Étoile trim gains a 350 horsepower, dual motor all-wheel drive option which uses the larger of the two batteries and can manage around 400 miles on a charge. You can adjust the regenerative braking using paddles on the back of the steering wheel in all models to maximise efficiency and there is also a ‘one-pedal’ driving setting. When you do need to charge the N°8 can receive up to 160kW of power and go from 20 to 80 per cent charge in 27 minutes.

Price and release

The N°8 is available to order now and we expect it to arrive in the UK in the summer. Prices start at £50,780 and rise to £62,030 for the top of the range dual motor model.

What other cars from DS are due this year?

DS hasn’t announced any other new cars for this year, but the DS3 is currently its only other fully electric model, so we can expect more to come in the future.

What other cars that are upcoming will this compete with?

DS has its sights on the premium end of the electric car market, so will be pitching the N°8 against the likes of the Mercedes-Benz EQE, BMW i4 and Polestar 4. Yet, buyers may also consider the Ford Capri, or the upcoming Kia EV4.
