If you had to pick one coupe out of these two, which one would you choose? Are you Team Mercedes C-Class or Team Mercedes E-Class? Well, if you’re like the many out there who kind of like a bit of both, Mercedes has the perfect car for you – the new Mercedes CLE 450.
Watch our full video review where Rory Reid's takes the Mercedes CLE 450 out for a spin and shows features have been adapted from the C- and the E-class in this new CLE. Based on the same platform as the other two coupes, the CLE is a perfect blend of the C- and the E-Class. And some more. Talking about the look and feel of the first - Mercedes has heard the C-Class drivers’ wish for more space and based the size of the new CLE on the E-Class. But the CLE actually surpasses the E-Class with an extra 15mm in length and a five-litre extra boot space which takes the total boot space to 455 litres. With a shark-nose grille that is accompanied by headlights that look predatory and hard to miss, the car looks striking up-front. On the back, however, it seems like a few things have been overlooked. The rear lightbar feels almost incomplete as it doesn’t connect. The CLE also comes with fake diffusers and vents in the rear and two enormous tailpipe housings, none of which do anything. For the interiors, the CLE feels much more like the C-Class to give it a sporty look that E-Class drivers wished for. But to get the best of both worlds, the infotainment system is made to look like the one in the C-Class, but is fitted with the software from the E-Class. And the CLE’s own touch is how intuitive the main menu feels. Special attention has been paid to how great the seat look – adorned in an eye-catching colour that goes well with the chrome detailing – and the comfort level. However, small details like the glossy plastic on the front have again, been overlooked. In terms of performance, the CLE 450 does 0-62 mph in 4.4 seconds and offers a top speed of 155mph. While it’s not the most involving car, its rear-wheel steering makes it feel more responsive, and the CLE feels much better when turning a circle than the E- and the C-Class coupes which makes it great for city driving.
