The Lamborghini Aventador SVJ Roadster is the convertible version of the SVJ coupe, originally released 2019.
The Roadster uses the same 6.5-litre, naturally aspirated V12 as the coupe, and gives you 0-62 in 2.9 seconds, 770 horsepower and 220mph top speed. And all of that power, with the roof down, results in a rush that stimulates every one of the senses. The two-piece carbon roof is totally manual, so might require some speedy work to get back in place once the heavens open. And in terms of performance the Roadster is a fraction heavier than the coupe and, with the roof removed, it affects the aerodynamics a bit. But convertibles are usually compromised from a performance perspective – the joy of convertibles comes from a simple cruise. In that context how does the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ Roadster cruise? Not too badly – it’s not got the comfiest or biggest seats, and it can be noisy with the exhaust, wide tyres and roar of the road coming in through the open top.

So, where does this car stand out?
Well, the beauty and charm of the is Aventador SVJ Roadster that it’s not a passive experience. This is an absolute weapon.
There’s a seven-speed, single-clutch, ‘robotised manual’ gearbox that’s violent in the best way. The steering is incredibly fast and direct. Removing the roof brings you closer to the action in a way the coupe, or even other convertibles, simply don’t. The Aventador feels a lot smaller than it is, given that it’s so agile and responsive. It also weighs in at around 1,600kg, which isn’t bad at all for 770 hp. Then there’s the all-wheel drive system, which disengages the front axle as you brake into a corner, meaning it feels more like a rear-wheel drive. The noise, the power, the experience: this is the very definition of a supercar, and one that will stimulate you like no other.
