Let’s dive straight into the Ford Ranger PHEV’s top stats. Up to 690Nm of torque (making it the most powerful Ranger in the range), an EV-only driving range of over 27 miles with a charging time of four hours on a single-phase 16 amp charger, an all-new PHEV powertrain combining the 2.3-litre EcoBoost petrol engine and 10‑speed automatic gearbox with a 75kW electric motor and an 11.8kWh (usable) battery, and Ford’s Pro Power Onboard system that allows users to power up to 6.9kW of tools directly from the onboard battery.
And alongside all that new stuff, Ranger PHEV is still capable of carrying one-tonne payloads, tow up to 3,500kg, and users can also use the latest e-4WD system, dual-range transfer box and rear differential lock. So, on paper it appears to be a compelling addition to the line-up offering all the things that make the Ford Ranger a stalwart and hardworking pickup truck, with a hybrid powertrain. While some do question if there are any positives to hybrid powertrains in commercial vehicles, as a halfway house to making the switch to a fully-electric vehicle a plug-in hybrid Ford Ranger may just have appeared at the right time. It’s also worth adding that Ranger PHEV will be available in Wildtrak and XLT trim levels, and a PHEV-exclusive Stormtrak launch edition. Customer deliveries are expected from spring 2025.

What Does The Ford Ranger Stormtrak Launch Edition Offer Drivers?
As you’d expect with a special launch edition, the Stormtrak version will offer a high standard spec list. This looks set to include Stormtrak design features, 18-inch alloy wheels, honeycomb grille, fender vents, decal kit, Matrix LED headlamps, Flexible Rack System, Pro Trailer Backup Assist and a 360-degree camera as standard. It will get its own paint colour - Chill Grey - as a Stormtrak exclusive with Agate Black paint also available. Finally, the cabin will feature a 10-speaker B&O sound system and trim-specific interior materials.
Who Will Drive The Ford Ranger PHEV?
With Ranger PHEV, Ford is targeting that key commercial vehicle audience in the UK - those that know electric driving is an unavoidable future but don’t want to make the switch right now. A plug-in hybrid vehicle is therefore an acceptable half-step towards eventual adoption of a fully-electric vehicle - allowing electric driving where possible and still offering strong carrying and towing weights. Making the switch is even easier for drivers if the ‘new’ vehicle they’re stepping into is already familiar in terms of looks and practicality, and what pickup truck could be more familiar than the Ford Ranger?
