Volkswagen’s history of producing vans is often obscured by its iconic camper vans, and rightly so because they’re a key part of the brand’s heritage and one of the first things you think of when someone mentions the brand’s name. But its light commercial and multi-person vehicles are ever-present sights on UK and international roads, with drivers and operators praising the vehicles as high-quality, well-built machines that last.

5. Volkswagen Caddy Small Van
Available in cargo and people carrier formats, the Volkswagen Caddy small van is trusted by businesses and families alike. The latest version remains as car-like to drive as previous versions, meaning that there’s very few roads the Caddy can’t be driven comfortably on. As a commercial vehicle, the choice of petrol and diesel versions with short or long wheelbases means there’s bound to be a Caddy that works for a business with the need for a smaller high weight carrier. And as a family vehicle, the MPV and Life versions offer more seats, more space and more legroom than the compact exterior might otherwise suggest. Camper van conversions are also available.

4. Volkswagen Crafter Large Van
The Volkswagen Crafter offers a lot… in a lot of shapes and sizes. With three weights, three lengths, three roof heights, multiple drive options, panel vans, combi vans and camper van versions available, the choice of Crafters out there is daunting. And even though it’s the biggest of the vans available, it somehow still manages to drive as easily as the smaller Transporter vans. Crafter was once a rebadged Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, but it’s been very much its own van for a while now offering drivers excellent load carrying capabilities, powerful engines and a little bit of class in a very big package.

Volkswagen’s electric ID.Buzz van is a bit of a marvel - at once pulling on the nostalgic heartstrings with its ‘love bus’ looks and taking its place in the market as a cutting-edge electric van. Personal and commercial versions are available in the standard ID.Buzz and ID.Buzz Cargo versions, but for those looking for more power it’s also available in a range-topping, road-chewing GTX version. Testament to its charm, whenever we do a giveaway with an ID.Buzz we get thousands upon thousands of entries.

2. Volkswagen Transporter Medium Van
The Volkswagen Transporter - with new brand ambassador Jason Statham (of course) - is a popular platform converted into people carriers, panel vans, campers and more. The newest version platform shares with the Ford Transit Custom, and they are the epitome of what makes a modern van good - great tech, great space, good prices. That said, Transporters of all ages continue to sell fast and for strong prices, with plenty being scooped up for conversions of all types.
