Ford hasn’t disappointed with the new Transit Custom Nugget camper range - further details have emerged revealing a new Active model, a longer wheelbase option, and plug-in hybrid and all-wheel drive powertrain options are to join the line-up. The expanded Transit Custom Nugget line-up has been developed in partnership with leading camper converter Westfalia.
The new model will go on display to the public for the first time at the Caravan Salon in Dusseldorf, Germany, from 30th August to 8th September. Visitors to the show will find the expanded Ford Transit Custom Nugget range on display in Halle 16. Let’s take a closer look.

New Active Model

The new Transit Custom Nugget Active builds on the Titanium launch spec with SUV-inspired styling, including a bold grille, black plastic rocker panels, exterior cladding, unique 17-inch machined alloy wheels and LED taillights. The interior features durable, water-resistant seat fabric. Advanced driving tech also boosts comfort on the move with a Driver Assistance Pack as standard adding Pre-Collision Assist, Reverse Brake Assist and Blind Spot Information System, Adaptive Cruise Control and Stop&Go for automatic models. Ford’s Smart Camper Touchscreen provides centralised control and monitoring of the camper's functions including lighting, heating, water levels and more when parked.
Like the Titanium model, Transit Custom Nugget Active can be specified with an optional all-wheel drive system for the 170 PS EcoBlue diesel engine with eight-speed automatic transmission. This combination provides better traction on rough and slippery surfaces, helping drivers reach remote locations for camping and outdoor activities. Transit Custom Nugget Active also offers up to 2.3-tonne towing capacity for hauling equipment such as boat trailers and horseboxes.

Longer Wheelbase Model

A new longer wheelbase version of the Transit Custom Nugget is available for both Titanium and Active variants with the full range of powertrains. Developed for additional comfort on extended trips, the more spacious model builds on the multi-zone unique interior layout.
It allows for a larger kitchen area with more worktop space for food prep, as well as more storage for pans and utensils. On the other side of the living area, storage capacity is increased with a larger built-in wardrobe. Drivers will also be able to specify an alternative longer wheelbase interior layout that includes a built-in toilet. Both standard and longer wheelbase variants offer the features announced at launch, including an integrated hob and sink unit and a standard hot water boiler. The interior also features heated swivel front seats, drawer fridge and wider beds with optional lower bed heating. In addition, the multifunctional Smart Camper Touchscreen system is equipped with an inclinometer to help level the vehicle when parking on uneven ground.

Plug-In Hybrid Powertrain

The Transit Custom Nugget's PHEV powertrain is similar to that used by the Ford Kuga Plug-In Hybrid. It combines a 2.5-litre Atkinson cycle petrol engine with an 11.8 kWh battery and electric motor to produce 233 PS and the ability to drive using pure-electric power. The design also includes an e-heater, providing energy-efficient on-grid warmth in combination with a traditional heater for off-grid use. The traction battery can be recharged via an AC power source using the supplied Mode 3 or available Mode 2 cable.
