Dacia has perfected the art of combining practical design with affordability, giving us rugged looking cars which won’t break the bank. For those with an adventurous spirit the Dacia Duster is a popular go-to, but although it’s a decent size, some families might be after a bit more room. To address this, Dacia is launching the Bigster. This will be a larger, Ford Kuga-size SUV, doing exactly what it says on the tin. It’s a Duster only big-ster.
• As the name suggests the Bigster will be Dacia’s largest SUV sitting above the Duster • It combines rugged looks with plenty of room and has all the essential features covered • Two-wheel drive models will be available with hybrid and mild hybrid engines, or there will be a mild hybrid all-wheel drive model on offer too • Expected to be on sale in 2025 • Prices likely to start around £30,000

Design and models available
We had our first glimpse of what a larger SUV from Dacia might look like back in 2021 when the Bigster concept car was showcased. Since then, we’ve seen how its design has influenced the look of the all-new Duster and the production ready Bigster looks very similar. Dacia describes its styling as “robust” and the Bigster has very deliberately bold lines, creating boxy shapes with strong angles. A recycled, unpainted material called Starkle is used for the wheel arches and side skirts adding to the rugged look and protecting the car from bumps and scrapes. In keeping with the latest Dacia models, Y-shaped details feature heavily and are part of the front and rear light clusters. The Bigster will also have its own optional paint colour, ‘Indigo blue’ to differentiate it from the other models in the line-up.
Interior and tech
Inside the Bigster there’s a focus on space and practicality. It sports a particularly large boot and the rear seats can be folded flat with a 40/20/60 split to maximise flexibility. There will be three levels of trim, starting with entry-level Expression and branching off to two higher levels: Extreme and Journey. These are both well-equipped with Extreme geared towards those seeking outdoor adventures and Journey aimed towards more lifestyle focused customers. The look of the interior is very similar to the new Duster with repeated Y-shape motifs throughout and it’s been designed to tackle whatever life throws at it – literally. Extreme trim comes with rubber boot and floor mats as standard, plus washable upholstery so any mud or spills can easily be cleaned. Base level Expression cars come with dual-zone climate control, a 10.1-inch touchscreen and 7-inch driver display, rear parking sensors and a reversing camera. Extreme models gain features such as satnav, hill descent control and an opening panoramic sunroof – a first for a Dacia. Meanwhile Journey cars get more creature comforts such as a central armrest, an electrically adjustable driver’s seat, a wireless phone charger and adaptive cruise control. You’ll also be able to add an array of accessories to make the Bigster even more practical. These include an organiser for the back of the front seat, a Sleep Pack to transform the interior into a double bed and a rear armrest which can be transformed into a backpack. Additionally there’s Dacia’s YouClip system with anchor points around the car enabling you to attach things like phone cradles and cupholders.
Engines
The Bigster will have a slightly different engine line-up to the Duster and Jogger. You will be able to choose from either a new automatic 155 horsepower hybrid engine, with a towing capacity of around one tonne. Alternatively, there’s a 140 horsepower mild hybrid with a six-speed manual gearbox. These are both two-wheel drive options. Additionally you can go for the four-wheel drive set up which uses the same manual 130 horsepower mild hybrid engine as the new Duster.
Price and release
We are expecting the Bigster to arrive in the UK during 2025. Dacia hasn’t shared any official pricing for the Bigster but we predict it will be in the region of £20,000-£30,000.
What other cars from Dacia are due this year?
It’s been a busy year for Dacia. It’s already launched the all-electric Spring with a headline-grabbing starting price of £14,995 and order books for the new Duster are now open.
What other cars that are upcoming will this compete with?
Dacia usually offers such good value it makes it hard for rivals to compete on price. However, Citroen has been updating its line-up and we expect a new Citroen C5 Aircross to arrive next year which could give the Bigster a run for its money. There’s also an all-new Vauxhall Grandland coming soon which will be offered as either a hybrid or full EV. Meanwhile MG, another budget friendly brand, has just launched its new HS.
