On top of the new Ami, C4 and C4 X showcased by Citroën at the Paris Motor Show, it also gave us a glimpse of what its next large SUV might look like with the C5 Aircross Concept. Although this is not a production-ready model, Citroën says it's 95 per cent there and the final car will become a new flagship for the brand. The concept C5 Aircross is built on the same foundations as the new Vauxhall Grandland and Peugeot’s E-3008 and E-5008, allowing for flexibility to offer different engine options including petrol, hybrid and fully electric.

Citroën is keen to avoid the C5 Aircross Concept looking generic and wants it to stand out from other SUVs. It has kept the shape simple with flowing lines to improve aerodynamics, but the design is less rounded than previous models giving it a harsher, more assertive look. Like the new C3, the C5 Aircross Concept sports the redesigned Citroën logo and the latest signature three-point light shape, cutting slivers into the front. At the back, the lights stick out from the body like floating wings. It will also feature customisable ‘Colour Clips’ so you can add your personality to the car. The C5 Aircross is a real transformation compared to the previous C5 Aircross and, like the new Vauxhall Grandland, it looks much more sophisticated than before.
The C5 Aircross Concept is designed to be family-friendly, focusing on comfort and maximising internal space. This is helped by being 15cm longer than the current C5 Aircross. Citroën hasn't unveiled what the inside will look like, but is aiming for a lounge-like interior, describing it as a “cocoon on wheels” and a “wellness area” for five people.

The C5 Aircross Concept wasn’t the only large family SUV on display in Paris. The new, budget conscious Dacia Bigster gained lots of attention and will likely provide competition when Citroën launches the production version of the C5 Aircross in 2025.
