Try, Buy, Dream – January 2025

This month’s selection of cars to try out, buy or simply dream about

Trying a car has never been easier – lots of car brands now offer subscription services on a monthly basis, with no down payment or exit fee so you can swap in and out of different models with minimal notice. Or you can lock in for longer, on a leasing deal, which still means you just pay a monthly amount and hand the car back at the end of the deal. Additionally, some brands provide 24-hour test drives for a chance to get to know the car before you commit.
Then there’s the Buy choice, whether it’s paying for the car with cash or signing up to a fixed term finance deal with the option to buy the car at the end. These are cars that make good long-term sense. And finally our fave section, for dreamers everywhere. The new luxe stuff, the wishlist option or the treat yourself splurge, depending on how big that imagined windfall might be. Enjoy this month’s offerings!

Blue Peugeot E-3008 front

Peugeot E-3008

Peugeot has upped its game over the last few years and all its models are instantly recognisable with striking designs and a more premium feel. Last year the 3008 received a complete overhaul, gaining a sleeker fastback shape and an all-electric option for the first time. Additionally, it features Peugeot’s latest version of its snazzy i-Cockpit driver display with a large curved main screen and a smaller touch-screen panel for shortcuts. The long-range electric models can go over 400 miles, which should be more than enough for most journeys, and you can currently book a 24-hour test drive to see how it fits into your lifestyle. If you like the 3008, but going electric doesn’t quite work for you, Peugeot also offers hybrid alternatives you can try before you buy.

Buy

Green Skoda Octavia Estate vRS rear

Skoda Octavia Estate

The Skoda Octavia Estate is our recommended buy this month. While it is also available as a saloon-shaped hatchback, the estate is even roomier and provides the flexibility for all life’s eventualities. There’s a good range of petrol and diesel engines to choose from, or you could opt for the vRS version. This retains the same levels of practicality, yet it injects more fun into your family wagon with its sportier looks and additional power. This makes it our Octavia of choice, though whichever option you pick provides plenty of space, quality, and value.

Dream

Copper Bentley Continental GT Convertible front with roof up

Bentley Continental GT Convertible

This month we are dreaming about the new Bentley Continental GT convertible. And what a car it is... Following its recent refresh, the first thing you’ll notice is the new headlight design with wings on each side providing a sense of movement even when the car is still. There are some new lights at the rear too, but the changes don’t stop there. Swapping some of the engine’s cylinders for an electric motor makes this the most powerful road going Bentley yet while also providing up to 50 miles of all-electric driving. Having the option of either a roaring V8 petrol engine or the silence of electric mode is the ultimate in luxury, making this grand tourer as at home in the city as it is on the alpine roads we’re yearning for.
