Given the cheapest version in the range starts just shy of £90,000 we’re not going to insult your intelligence claiming there’s a Porsche 911 for all budgets. But, if you’re lucky enough to be in the market for one, there’s certainly no lack of choice. Indeed, at the time of writing there are as many as 22 different 911 models to choose from, all supported by a huge range of standard options and further levels of personalisation if you really want to spend big.
On the face of it pretty bewildering. And surely made even more confusing by the arrival of yet another version, the 911 GTS. Possibly not, as Rory explores in this latest video. Basically if you’re not sure which 911 ticks all the boxes, the GTS could well be the answer, given it pulls in elements from the Carrera, Turbo and GT3 models for a best of all megamix. But what is a 911 GTS? Porsche typically introduces GTS versions of its models a little way into their product cycles to spice things up, as we’ve seen with the Boxster, Cayman, Macan, Cayenne, Panamera and, most recently, Taycan. According to the proven format they bundle a tempting combination of extra features usually offered as cost options, garnish with a little more power and have a distinctive look of their own thanks to smoked out lights, different wheels and – of course – lots of GTS branding inside and out.

In the 911’s case extra performance is assured with an additional 30 horsepower over the Carrera S – now 480 horsepower – while the suspension and brakes are both uprated with parts from the considerably more expensive 911 Turbo. You can have your 911 GTS with the choice of a seven-speed manual gearbox or eight-speed automatic, in two- or all-wheel drive and in the full range of bodystyles, including coupe, cabriolet or Targa. In its fastest form with the automatic gearbox the GTS will hit 0-62mph in just 3.3 seconds and all versions are capable of over 190mph.
So you can have it fast and luxurious like a Turbo, or if you prefer you can go stripped out like a GT3 and tick the box for the optional Lightweight Design package that deletes the rear seats. Like choosing the toppings for a build-your-own pizza, the GTS provides a tasty base for creating the 911 of your dreams. What’s Rory’s chosen flavour? Watch the video to find out!
