But many buyers may fail to take depreciation into account, and lose money over time. Martin Keighley, a used car valuation expert for HPI – which provides information on the UK motor industry – said, “Those keen to trade in their current vehicle for something else need to think carefully about their next purchase.” “It’s really important consumers think about a car’s potential to depreciate before parting with their cash.” Smaller cars which are cheap to run will hold their value the most, especially if they’re desirable, eco-friendly and in high demand.
